Most students feel it is essential for them to do community service even though community service has been made non-compulsory at JC level. It allows them to broaden their view of the outside world, challenge themselves to fulfil tasks and feeling a sense of satisfaction at having met their goals. Some do it for altruistic reasons – to help the underprivileged, the elderly and the needy – a genuine desire to share their happiness, knowledge and experience with others who are less fortunate than them. This is also one way of giving back and contributing to our society. In the past, we have had a number of youth in our church who initiated service projects with us.
